Take-Up of Medicare Part D and the SSA Subsidy: Early Results from the Health and Retirement Study
Helen Levy and David Weir
WP 2007-163

  • Take-up of Part D is very high with fewer than 10% of seniors left without
  • Those with higher use of prescription drugs or worse self-reported health in 2004 were more likely to sign up for Part D.
  • Take-up of the low-income subsidy is quite low. Many respondents report they had not heard about the extra help.
