Alexander Strand

Alexander Strand (Ph.D. Economics, American University, 1999) is an economist at the Social Security Administration. He has worked with SSA’s administrative data files on disability and poverty issues for ten years. He is currently working with Maestas and Mullen on an MRRC-funded project examining consistency of the disability determination process and implications for labor supply outcomes. In other related work, he has examined disability benefit coverage and program interactions in the working-age population, as well as issues involving benefit adequacy and the impact of the SSI program on poverty. Previously, he worked at the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
