Maximilian Schmeiser

Chief Economist and Head of Data Science, Amazon Lending

Prior to joining Amazon, Max Schmeiser spent five years at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC where he was a Principal Economist in the Microeconomic Surveys Section and a Senior Economist in the Consumer Research Section. Before joining the Board, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Consumer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He remains an honorary faculty fellow in the Department of Consumer Science and an affiliate at the Center for Financial Security.

His research broadly focuses on how public policies affect household finances and economic wellbeing. Current areas of emphasis include examining the determinants and effect of reverse mortgage borrowing, the effect of interventions to improve student loan borrowing, and the effect of high school financial education on later life financial behavior.
